The Naga Students Federation has called for the immediate termination of the Suspension of Operations agreement involving Kuki militant organizations. The group claims the arrangement now serves to enable ongoing attacks on Naga communities, residents, and traditional territories in the neighboring state of Manipur.

In a formal statement released on November 2, federation leaders expressed strong disapproval of what they see as repeated targeted actions against Naga settlements and ordinary people. They urged both the central government and Manipur authorities to respond swiftly and hold those accountable.

The statement, issued under the names of federation president Mteisuding and assistant general secretary Veze Tunyi, highlighted concerns about potential conflicts of interest and external support influencing the truce mechanism. Officials pointed specifically to an individual named Thangboi Kipgen, described as the spouse of a Manipur deputy chief minister, and alleged direct leadership ties to one of the militant outfits participating in the agreement.

Questions were raised about why such connections had not prompted earlier official scrutiny despite prior requests from Naga representatives in the legislature. Earlier remarks by another deputy chief minister, Dr Losii Dikho, had similarly called for either resignation or intervention to halt activities directed at Naga areas.

The federation defended the position taken by Dr Dikho, stating that his statements consistently promoted peace, discussion, and coexistence while opposing violence regardless of community background. It contrasted this with what it described as uneven scrutiny applied to different officials.

Leaders emphasized that Naga populations have consistently avoided starting confrontations and instead focused on safeguarding their lands and heritage. Any additional pressure on ancestral areas, they warned, would lead to ongoing opposition.

The organization demanded prompt involvement from national authorities and the Manipur administration to ensure balanced accountability free from political favoritism. It reiterated that the truce framework requires review to prevent misuse.

Observers note that the Suspension of Operations pact was originally intended to reduce hostilities and create space for dialogue between security forces and certain armed groups. However, recent developments have raised doubts about its effectiveness in maintaining calm across affected districts.

Local communities in border regions between Nagaland and Manipur have reported increased incidents of displacement and property damage in recent months. Student organizations have played a visible role in documenting these events and advocating for protective measures.

The federation’s latest intervention adds to a series of public appeals seeking clearer government action on militant activities and their possible external connections. Such statements often reflect broader worries about stability in the northeastern states.

Authorities have not issued an immediate response to the newest demands. Past efforts at mediation have involved multiple rounds of talks among community representatives, state officials, and central agencies.

Residents in the region continue to express hope for lasting solutions that respect territorial claims and reduce the risk of further clashes. Student groups maintain that transparent handling of truce-related issues remains essential for restoring trust.

The situation underscores ongoing challenges in managing agreements with armed factions while addressing grievances from multiple ethnic communities. Continued monitoring by civil society organizations is expected in the coming weeks.
