RJD chief Lalu Prasad has announced a march to the governor’s residence on August 19 to protest the Bihar government’s response to student demonstrations in Siwan district. He accused the administration of meeting democratic demands with gunfire from an AK-47 rifle.

Opposition alliance members will join the march and deliver a memorandum to the governor concerning the July 25 shooting during protests against a NEET exam paper leak.

A police constable was suspended after video of the incident circulated online. Authorities reported no injuries and confirmed that officers had orders not to fire during the demonstration. An inquiry has begun.

Prasad stated that students and youth face distress from repeated paper leaks, declining education standards, biased hiring practices, and lack of jobs. He called for unity in Patna against the government’s approach.

RJD working president Tejashwi Yadav earlier said alliance leaders would petition the governor and argued that action against a single constable was insufficient. He demanded accountability for the senior officer who authorized use of the weapon.

Left-wing student groups staged protests across several Bihar districts on July 25 in support of a statewide bandh. Clashes occurred in Patna and other areas, with stones thrown at police in some locations.
