Chennai: Delhi Capitals batsman Nitish Rana received a fine equivalent to 25 percent of his match fee following a heated exchange with the fourth umpire in their Indian Premier League game against Chennai Super Kings. The disagreement arose in the 19th over when the umpire rejected Tristan Stubbs’ request to replace his sweat-soaked gloves amid Chennai’s humid conditions on Saturday. After Stubbs was out, Rana approached the umpire in frustration, resulting in a demerit point. According to an IPL statement, Rana violated Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct under article 2.3, which addresses the use of audible obscenities during play. Rana acknowledged the violation and agreed to the match referee’s penalty. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was fined Rs 12 lakh because his team failed to maintain the required over-rate in the match against Delhi Capitals. This marked CSK’s first such infraction this season under article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct. CSK secured a 23-run victory over Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, marking their first win in the current IPL. CSK is scheduled to play Kolkata Knight Riders next on Tuesday.
