India A will look to bounce back when they play Sri Lanka A in an important tri-series fixture on Sunday. All three sides remain level after two rounds of matches. India opened with an eight-run win against Sri Lanka but then lost by four runs to Afghanistan A in a rain-affected game decided by the DLS method. Sri Lanka responded with a victory over Afghanistan, leaving the contest for a place in the final wide open.
India A’s batting unit has performed strongly despite the loss. Prabhsimran Singh scored 84 against Afghanistan, while captain Tilak Varma and vice-captain Ruturaj Gaikwad each registered their second consecutive half-centuries. Young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi again stood out, scoring a rapid 44 from 22 deliveries and adding 74 runs for the first wicket with Prabhsimran.
Off the field, Sooryavanshi’s childhood coach Manish Ojha described the reasons for the player’s rapid progress. He noted that the batter trains for around eight hours daily and faces more than 600 deliveries in practice sessions to build muscle memory for aggressive strokeplay. Ojha also mentioned the support from the player’s family, including his mother Aarti, who prepares meals for the team at early hours. With a spot in the final still undecided, the upcoming match carries significant importance.
