NEW DELHI: India bowling coach Morne Morkel stated that the team will continue supporting openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma despite calls for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to debut internationally. Sooryavanshi gained attention after selection for T20I squads versus Ireland and England following a strong IPL campaign. Abhishek scored a half-century and 49 in recent tour matches, while Samson managed 5, 0 and 1. Morkel noted the value of trusting players with prior success, including Abhishek as a top T20 batter and Samson as a World Cup performer. He added that faith in the group benefits the entire squad. Morkel explained that lineup choices involve more than adding new talent and that staff aim to avoid shifting players out of position. He described the decision as complex, emphasizing performances and building a strong top order. The coach praised Sooryavanshi for quick adjustment to the squad and strong training sessions. He also commended pacer Prince Yadav for his early international wickets and calm approach, and fast bowler Harshit Rana for his intensity post-injury. The team prepares for the next T20I against England at Old Trafford while monitoring young prospects.
