New Delhi: India’s Sports Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, announced on Monday his efforts to bring back a Formula 1 event to the country by 2027. During a casual discussion with journalists, he revealed that at least three firms are interested in managing the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. ‘India will host an F1 race in 2027, starting at the Buddh International Circuit,’ Mandaviya stated. The Indian Grand Prix was discontinued following its third event in 2013 because of taxation issues and administrative challenges. Liberty Media, the owner of Formula 1, has not issued any statement regarding a potential comeback to India. The Adani group, poised to take over the financially troubled Jaypee Group’s holdings, which include the Greater Noida racing venue, has indicated its intent to restore the prestigious event. The sport has seen a surge in global appeal since Liberty Media’s acquisition in 2017. It currently features a record-breaking 24-race schedule, although two events planned for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain this month were called off amid tensions in West Asia.
