Indian judo athletes secured two landmark gold medals at the Commonwealth Games held at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow on Friday, July 31, 2026, adding to the country’s successes.

Asmita Dey defeated Heidi Quach of Canada 2-1 in the women’s 48kg final. Harsh Singh defeated Joshua Katz of Australia, the reigning bronze medallist, 10-0 in the men’s 60kg final.

Trailing 0-1 after a penalty, Asmita stayed composed. The 23-year-old from Belonia, South Tripura, pinned her opponent to tie the score. After regulation time, the bout went to Golden Score, where she won with a decisive attack.

Harsh controlled the pace and used superior strategy. A well-timed attack gave him a 10-0 lead, prompting an exuberant celebration.

Asmita grew emotional in the mixed zone recalling her father Arjun Kumar Dey, who died in 2015. She thanked Uttar Pradesh Police for a job and coach Yashpal Solanki for training at the National Centre of Excellence in Bhopal.
