Mosaddek Hossain made an unbeaten 86, his highest score in international cricket, to help Bangladesh reach 284 for eight against Australia in the first one-day international in Dhaka on Tuesday. The all-rounder, back after four years away, dominated the Australian spinners with seven fours and three sixes from 70 deliveries at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Bangladesh took advantage of sloppy Australian fielding that included six dropped catches, four of them from Mosaddek. Openers Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto built a strong start with half-centuries each. Tanzid scored 54 from 44 balls before Nathan Ellis dismissed him. Shanto continued his good form with 67 from 86 deliveries until a soft dismissal. The pair added 96 for the second wicket after Ellis had removed Saif Hassan for five. Australia briefly threatened when Matt Renshaw took two wickets with his off-spin, but Mosaddek steadied the innings with partnerships that included 75 with Towhid Hridoy. Ellis finished with three for 38, while Liam Scott and Renshaw each took two wickets on debut for the visitors.
