Indian Open 2026: Double Paralympic champion Sumit Antil set a new world record in the men’s javelin throw F64 at the 8th Indian Open International Para Athletics Championships. On May 27, he achieved a distance of 74.82 meters on his fifth attempt, improving on his previous mark of 73.29 meters from the 2023 Para Asian Games.
Antil had already won three straight gold medals at the prior edition of the event. In comments after the record throw, he said he had waited three years for the achievement and felt pleased it had finally occurred. He noted he could have performed even better and hopes to improve further at the upcoming Asian Para Games. Antil also mentioned adjustments to his technique and run-up that helped him generate more power, with plans to increase his distance in future competitions.
