A senior European Union official on Monday urged restrictions on children’s social media use after a special panel advised banning access for those under 13 until companies demonstrate platform safety. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted infinite scrolling among addictive features that firms must tackle. She added that children under three should avoid screens entirely. Similar measures have emerged worldwide, with Australia, Britain, Turkey and Indonesia among nations restricting users under 15 or 16 from apps such as TikTok, YouTube and Instagram.
