Indian Railways has rolled out the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express to elevate comfort levels and refine the experience of overnight trips nationwide. The inaugural service of this type began on the route connecting Howrah and Kamakhya. Featuring an orange and grey exterior, the train shortens journey times by up to six hours.

The Howrah-Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, built by BEML with ICF technology, is a semi-high-speed option that started its first journey on January 17, 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it at Malda Town railway station in West Bengal. It runs under train numbers 27575 and 27576, with operations and upkeep handled by the Northeast Frontier Railway zone.
