Nitish Kumar, leader of the JD(U), has stepped down from his position as Chief Minister of Bihar, concluding his record as the state’s longest-serving leader in that role.
Prior to presenting his resignation to Governor Syed Ata Hasnain, Kumar suggested disbanding the cabinet, according to state minister Ram Kripal Yadav, as reported by PTI.
Kumar was sworn in as a Rajya Sabha member the previous week.
In the 243-seat Bihar assembly, the BJP holds 89 seats, making it the biggest single party and a key part of the NDA alliance. The coalition will choose its new legislative leader at the party’s headquarters.
The NDA alliance, with 202 members, comprises 85 from JD(U), 19 from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), five from Hindustani Awam Morcha, and an additional five from Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
