A software engineer from India, now based in London, has gained widespread attention on social media by detailing his path from unsuccessful attempts at IIT admission to landing a job at Meta with an annual salary of approximately Rs 1.7 crore.
In an Instagram video, Amit Dutta described the challenges and triumphs of his professional life. He began by recounting his inability to pass the IIT entrance exams in 2018. As his classmates gained spots at top institutions, Dutta chose a less prominent college, viewing it as an opportunity to shape his own success rather than a failure.
He explained in the video’s caption that he shifted focus from regretting the missed opportunity to developing skills independently of any school’s reputation.
Dutta’s journey included obstacles, such as being rejected for a Microsoft internship in 2021 after extensive preparation. Undeterred, he continued forward and secured a full-time position at Google the next year. During his two years there, he honed his expertise and traveled for work, including a visit to Singapore.
Later, Meta recruited him for a role in its London office. Following a rigorous series of six interviews, he accepted the offer and moved to the United Kingdom, an outcome he had previously seen as unattainable.
The video has inspired many viewers, attracting numerous comments from those motivated by his experiences. Commenters highlighted how his story demonstrates that success in one’s career is possible without attending elite universities.
