Seva Bharati Kerala has begun building five houses for families left homeless by the Wayanad landslides. On June 11, foundation stones were laid at Nathamkuni near Kalpetta. The project is part of ongoing rehabilitation work by the organisation and its partners. One house is sponsored by the State Committee of NGO Sangh Kerala and another by the Bengaluru-based NGO Uthishtata. Seva Bharati, which draws inspiration from the RSS, aims to provide permanent shelter to families still without homes after the disaster. The ceremony was attended by RSS leaders T.D. Jagat Nathkumar, Sajeevan and C.K. Balakrishnan, along with Seva Bharati district president K. Sathyan Nair and K.S. Satheeshan. NGO Sangh Kerala leader Sajeevan handed over the first payment for one house. Additional Seva Bharati and NGO Sangh officials were also present. The July 30, 2024 landslides in Mundakkai and Chooralmala killed 222 people, injured about 400 and left nearly 100 missing. Besides housing, the group is setting up a skill development centre and has opened a tailoring unit in Kalpetta. The Kerala government has already distributed 178 houses to displaced families in March 2026. Seva Bharati’s project targets those still awaiting permanent homes. RSS volunteers took part in early rescue and relief work, including body recovery, medical transport and distribution of food and supplies. The new houses continue those efforts nearly two years after the tragedy.
