The dispute over three Indian seafarers killed in a US missile attack on a ship near Oman intensified on Friday. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar phoned US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to register India’s strong objection to strikes on commercial vessels during enforcement of a naval blockade against Iran.
Jaishankar, visiting Finland, made the call hours after the Ministry of External Affairs summoned the US chargé d’affaires for the second time in two days. In a post on X, he said he had reiterated India’s protest, noting that lethal actions against commercial shipping are not justified.
