Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte announced that numerous hotels and private beach shacks in the state are intentionally understating their status during registration with the tourism department to evade elevated government charges and levies.
In a statement to reporters on Friday, Khaunte revealed he has instructed the tourism department to launch an investigation and assemble a group for on-site verifications to identify any discrepancies in the paperwork provided by these establishments throughout the state.
This development follows a blaze that erupted Thursday evening at a beach resort close to the Ajoba temple in Ashvem, destroying at least six cottages. Additionally, six shacks were consumed by fire on April 4 at Arambol beach. During an assessment of these recent incidents, irregularities in the registration processes came to light, he noted.
