A photograph from the White House honoring a victorious women’s collegiate sports team has triggered criticism because former President Donald Trump and several men stood in front, blocking the view of the female players. The University of Georgia’s women’s tennis squad was among various college teams invited to the White House on Wednesday to commemorate their recent title victory. In an image posted by press assistant Margo Martin, six men, including Trump, occupied the foreground on stage, while 11 women were placed behind them on an elevated platform. Former tennis professional Martina Navratilova commented on X, stating, ‘A photo is worth a thousand words …’ A video from Martin shows Trump greeting the five men with handshakes but not extending the same to the women. Later, the Georgia team posted the photo on its official profile, noting: ‘An honor to represent the University of Georgia at the White House today! @realDonaldTrump thanks for having us out!’ The picture has been likened to past cases where men have taken center stage in images related to women’s topics. For instance, in 2017, an image of Trump signing legislation restricting abortion access, flanked by eight male aides in the Oval Office, provoked significant anger.
