Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar has announced his retirement from domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League. The 35-year-old player, who represented Tamil Nadu and later Tripura, said he wants to explore new opportunities while continuing to play more cricket.
Shankar appeared in 12 ODIs and nine T20Is for India from 2018 to 2019. In a social media statement, he reflected on his career that began at age 10, expressing gratitude for representing the national team and highlighting key moments such as bowling the final over in India’s 500th ODI and claiming a wicket with his first delivery at the 2019 World Cup.
He was part of India’s squad for the 2019 ODI World Cup but missed the rest of the tournament due to injury. In the IPL, Shankar played for Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Titans across multiple seasons.
In First-Class cricket, he scored 4,253 runs at an average of 46.73 with 13 centuries and took 43 wickets. His List A record includes 2,790 runs at 34.87 and 73 wickets, while in T20 matches he accumulated 2,583 runs and 38 wickets.
