With assembly elections in five states scheduled early next year, the Congress party is preparing a nationwide outreach effort to unite Dalits and minorities through joint programs by its Scheduled Castes and minority departments.

AICC Minority Department chairman Imran Pratapgarhi stated that the plan stems from perceived widespread oppression of these groups. He noted that both communities have faced significant challenges and that bringing them together to address shared concerns is essential.

The first joint convention is set for June 6 in Delhi. It will include party members from the communities along with intellectuals, activists and artists to discuss relevant issues.

Similar events are planned nationwide afterward, focusing especially on Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur, where polls are expected in February or March.

AICC Scheduled Caste Department chairman Rajendra Pal Gautam said both groups face comparable difficulties under the current government, one linked to religion and the other to caste. The meetings will examine economic and social conditions to develop solutions.

Party leaders view the focus on Dalits and Muslims as a logical step, given their historical support for Congress. Insiders cite electoral math in the five states, where these communities form 35-40 percent of voters, as a key driver.

The outreach follows a parallel push to refine messaging on minority matters, including advice from Rahul Gandhi to address specific community concerns directly.
