Households across Uttar Pradesh will see electricity bills rise after the state power utility imposed an extra surcharge through the fuel adjustment charge system. The change is expected to push monthly charges up by about 10 percent, increasing costs for residents.
The utility announced that the added fee will appear in bills starting in June and must be paid separately from standard rates. Officials explained the surcharge covers higher fuel and purchase expenses faced by distribution companies. The mechanism lets utilities pass on changes in fuel and supply costs directly to users.
The adjustment arrives as many areas report frequent outages and supply problems during high summer demand. Consumer groups have voiced worries about the extra expense on top of already rising living costs and questioned why the increase was timed now.
All consumer types, including homes and businesses, will face higher monthly spending. The exact amount will depend on usage and rate category. The corporation said the step follows regulatory rules and supports the financial stability of power operations. Revised bills will begin reaching customers next month.
