Following the end of the assembly election cycle and a smooth leadership change in Karnataka, Congress leaders are focusing on reorganizing several state units and adjusting roles within the All India Congress Committee. Reports indicate a planned overhaul of the Punjab unit ahead of the 2027 assembly polls. Current chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring may be replaced, with some leaders supporting Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi. The party’s weak showing in recent local elections has intensified internal divisions. Up to six states could see new leadership. Fresh presidents are expected in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, while changes are being considered for Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. In Kerala, Sunny Joseph has become a minister, prompting early competition for the state post among several MPs and leaders, with debates over caste and community representation. In Tamil Nadu, K Selvaperunthagai is likely to be replaced due to concerns over his approach. Karnataka’s next chief will be chosen alongside a cabinet reshuffle, with Satish Jarkiholi seen as a leading candidate. Rajasthan’s Govind Singh Dotasra and Uttar Pradesh’s Ajay Rai may also face replacement. Andhra Pradesh could see a shift as well, with Y S Sharmila possibly moving to the Rajya Sabha. The reappointment of Girish Chodankar in Goa has caused some unease ahead of 2027 polls. Broader AICC-level adjustments are also under review, with discussions between Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge on introducing new figures before the 2029 general elections.
