D K Shivakumar was sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday, succeeding Siddaramaiah. Thirteen additional ministers also took the oath alongside him.
The new cabinet includes several experienced figures from the prior administration along with some fresh appointments. It features three ministers each from the Lingayat and Scheduled Caste communities, two each from the Vokkaliga and Kuruba groups, and one each from the Reddy, Scheduled Tribe, Christian and Muslim communities.
Most ministers hail from southern Karnataka, including four from Bengaluru Urban district and one each from Bengaluru South, Bengaluru Rural, Tumakuru, Mysuru and Dakshina Kannada. The remaining members come from northern districts, with two from Kalaburagi and one each from Belagavi, Vijayapura and Bidar.
Additional ministers are expected to be inducted later.
The ministers who took the oath include Dr G Parameshwara from Koratagere in Tumakuru district, a 74-year-old PhD holder from the Scheduled Caste community with prior experience as Deputy Chief Minister and in higher education and home affairs. K H Muniyappa, 78, from Devanahalli in Bengaluru Rural, is the senior-most member and has served multiple terms as MP and union minister. K J George from Sarvagnanagar in Bengaluru Urban, aged 76, has held portfolios including home and energy. M B Patil from Babaleshwar in Vijayapura district, 61, has managed water resources and industries. Ramalinga Reddy from BTM Layout in Bengaluru Urban has overseen transport and education. Satish Jarkiholi from Yemkanmardi in Belagavi district, 64, has handled public works and small industries.
