After recent fire incidents in trains, the Railway Board has launched a 15-day special inspection drive across Indian Railways. The drive focuses on identifying lapses, mainly in pantry cars, and taking punitive action against those responsible.

The board reviewed a Southern Railway report that identified the most frequent issues causing fires. These include tampering with heating coils, replacing standard coils with higher-capacity ones, placing aluminium foils under heaters, masking smoke sensors, unsecured wiring, and blocking FDSS panels with cartons or water bottles.
