A commercial ship, MT MARIVEX, carrying 24 Indian crew members is sinking near Masirah Island, Oman, after an alleged strike by the US Navy. The crew sent distress signals after a fire broke out on the vessel around 1:30 pm on Monday. India’s Shipping Ministry confirmed the incident and the presence of the Indian seafarers. Preliminary reports indicate all crew members are safe. The ministry is working with the External Affairs Ministry, Indian missions overseas, the Indian Navy and the Defence Ministry to ensure their protection. The All India Seafarers Union received an urgent message from a crew member after the fire and stated that all seafarers remain safe. The union is monitoring developments with government authorities and supports the affected crew and their families.
