Political tension is increasing in New Delhi, with West Bengal at the center of attention. What began as routine courtesy visits is now seen as evidence of growing unrest inside the Trinamool Congress.

A private home belonging to a Union minister has become a focal point for several TMC parliamentarians who appear distant from the party’s top leadership.

The most visible figure was Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, who recently stepped down from the Rajya Sabha. He met with other TMC lawmakers including Jagadish Basunia, Prasun Banerjee, Sharmila Sarkar, Arup Chakraborty and Kalipada Soren.

Signs of internal friction had been building for months. Roy cited concerns over corruption, crimes against women and limited tolerance for dissent when announcing his resignation.

Ritabrata Bandopadhyay stated he had been in contact with several TMC MPs in recent days, including some who were in Delhi the previous night. His comments raise the question of whether the gatherings were spontaneous or part of a coordinated effort.

The timing has added weight to the developments. Key Bengal politicians including Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee, Suvendu Adhikari and Firhad Hakim are all in the capital. Their overlapping presence has intensified speculation.

Observers in Kolkata have noted claims of internal divisions for months. Reports suggest lower attendance at some recent meetings called by Mamata Banerjee, with many MPs offering various excuses for their absence.

Mamata Banerjee has maintained a notably low public profile during this visit, limiting media interactions after attending an INDIA bloc meeting.

It remains too early to call the situation a full rebellion, yet the events cannot be dismissed as ordinary courtesy calls. The outcome, whether a split, compromise or renewed control by the leadership, is still unclear. Questions about unity and succession inside the party are now being raised more openly.
