Dame Bridget Ogilvie possessed a sharp sense of humour. During joint efforts by the Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust to site the new European Bioinformatics Institute at Hinxton in Cambridgeshire, a brochure was prepared for the decision makers. Both wore bushy beards and old tweed jackets. Dame Bridget immediately remarked that they looked as if they were waiting for Godot.
