Following the TMC’s defeat in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, several TMC MPs have signaled interest in aligning with the NDA. The shift comes amid analysis of voting patterns across constituencies. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the TMC held 29 of West Bengal’s 42 seats. Data from the 2026 assembly polls shows the BJP leading in assembly segments within 21 of those Lok Sabha constituencies. Examples include full BJP control in segments of Asansol, Bardhaman Purba, Bankura, Jhargram and Arambagh. In seven other seats the BJP won six segments each. This performance suggests the BJP could capture many of these Lok Sabha seats in 2029 based on current trends. Reports indicate around 20 TMC MPs have approached the Lok Sabha Speaker to leave the TMC and join the NDA. Observers attribute the move to efforts by MPs to retain their seats rather than external pressure from the BJP. The NDA would gain additional parliamentary strength if the shift occurs. Coverage remains focused on electoral data from West Bengal.
