Nora Fatehi expressed her desire to deliver messages of celebration, unity and representation at Canada’s World Cup opening ceremony. She will perform her official FIFA World Cup song, ‘Siir Siir’, at the event in Toronto on June 12. The track, inspired by a Moroccan football chant meaning “go, go”, seeks to capture the tournament’s spirit and connect fans worldwide through music and sport. In comments to BBC Newsbeat, Fatehi noted that the event allows participants from many nations to share the spotlight. She highlighted how music and football complement each other and said she aimed to showcase multiculturalism in art while sharing her personal journey. Fatehi had performed at the 2022 World Cup closing ceremony. Returning to Canada for this occasion holds special significance, as she departed Toronto at age 22 to build a career in India and later became a prominent Bollywood figure. She described the chance to appear on one of football’s major stages in Canada as inspirational and a tale of resilience, hoping it encourages others to pursue ambitious goals. Rehearsals and costume fittings have been extensive, with the show intended to be energetic, impactful and dynamic. Created with Vegedream and Sanjoy, the song mixes Moroccan Darija, Arabic, French and English, reflecting Fatehi’s background and the tournament’s international scope. Its music video was shot on Moroccan streets to illustrate football’s path from local games to global arenas. The track originated from chants of “siir siir” by supporters at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Fatehi is among several international artists on FIFA’s official 18-song soundtrack, which includes Shakira and Burna Boy’s ‘Dai Dai’ performed at Mexico’s opening ceremony on June 11.
