A Pakistani citizen was detained in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir during a combined operation involving the Indian Army and local police, according to officials on Saturday. The effort, named Operation Simri, began following intelligence reports of a possible crossing at the Line of Control. Officials noted the person entered Indian territory under unclear conditions. Army’s Chinar Corps troops and police officers stopped and held the individual prior to any risk emerging. The Chinar Corps stated that vigilant soldiers, in tandem with police, captured the intruder close to Simri village on June 12. The detained Pakistani is under interrogation. Probes continue to determine details of the entry and potential connections to border-related groups. This occurs as security increases in the area before the Amarnath Yatra. Union Home Minister Amit Shah led a senior review session on Friday to check preparations for the event. He stressed the administration’s dedication to protecting and aiding the many pilgrims planning the journey. The minister ordered quick setup of a strong, layered security system along travel routes, coordinated among central forces, state police, army, and anti-terror teams. The session also examined security at nearby tourist sites in Jammu and Kashmir beyond the main pilgrimage paths.
