A boat carrying Indian tourists capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam, resulting in multiple deaths among nationals. Several of those killed were employees or distributors of Lava Mobiles, according to a company representative. Many victims are believed to be from Andhra Pradesh, though the final death toll has not yet been confirmed.
Three boats in total carried employees and distributors of the Indian firm, founded in 2009, which produces smartphones, tablets, laptops and other electronics.
The Indian embassy in Vietnam stated that search and rescue efforts by local authorities are continuing. Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh met with officials from the Ministry of External Affairs and is monitoring the situation.
Images from the site showed an overturned vessel in rough seas, rescuers searching for survivors, and bodies recovered on the shore.
