Spain defeated France 2-0 in a World Cup semifinal in Texas on Tuesday, reaching their first final since winning the trophy in 2010. Goals by Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro sealed the result.

Spain controlled the game from the start with strong pressing and possession, gradually limiting France’s attacking options. France entered with the tournament’s most potent offense but managed only two shots on target.

Spain opened the scoring in the 22nd minute from a penalty awarded after a challenge in the box. Oyarzabal struck the ball high into the net. Porro doubled the lead just before the hour with a calm finish after a passing exchange.

The European champions need one more win to claim both major titles. They will learn their final opponent on Wednesday after England plays Argentina in Atlanta, with the decider set for Sunday.

For Spain, another title 16 years after their first would mark a new successful period built around young talents and a balanced style of play.

France struggled to create space and were unable to break down the organized Spanish defense. Their forwards were closely marked throughout and produced little threat.
