Following unrest in Manipur’s Senapati district and an attack on an Assam Rifles camp, the CRPF has updated its plans for troop movement and operations. Roughly 100 bulletproof vehicles were sent to the state to improve protection and mobility.

Tensions rose on Tuesday night when a crowd gathered outside the camp after a search for suspected NSCN (IM) militants. Protesters threw stones, set fires and damaged the site, leading forces to fire blanks and use tear gas to restore order.

Updated rules require all personnel to travel only in armored vehicles in sensitive zones, with no unescorted movement allowed. Routine tasks such as supply deliveries and camp transfers must now be planned ahead and escorted.

Women personnel will join movement teams when necessary, following repeated cases of female demonstrators confronting forces. Two CoBRA battalions trained in jungle warfare have also been deployed after local orientation. Their duties include removing illegal bunkers and clearing potential ambush spots along curves and forested stretches.

About 320 companies of central armed police forces, excluding Assam Rifles, are now stationed in Manipur amid ongoing ethnic violence. The CRPF is also taking steps to reduce friction with Kuki groups through confidence-building measures.
