Seven additional deaths in the past day have raised the Assam flood fatalities to 75. The number of affected residents has fallen to 3.32 lakh, according to The Telegraph. State authorities have raised ex gratia payments to families of the deceased from four lakh to nine lakh rupees and eased eligibility rules for claims, officials told PTI. Districts still facing floods include Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan, covering 21 revenue circles and 622 villages. Charaideo recorded the highest impact with 1.42 lakh people affected, followed by Sivasagar with 97,024 and Jorhat with 57,371. All seven deaths reported Tuesday occurred in the Narzia area of Sivasagar district. Floodwaters have submerged 45,341.98 hectares of crops and damaged houses, schools, cow sheds and anganwadis. Conditions improved from Monday when six districts were listed as affected and 4.45 lakh people impacted. Eighty-one relief camps now shelter 32,477 displaced residents. Army, Air Force, NDRF, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services and civil volunteers continue rescue and relief work. The Intra Circle Roaming facility has been extended in Sivasagar to maintain mobile services for all users. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that education for children will continue despite the floods. Dedicated learning and play areas in camps aim to protect childhood routines. Norms for ex gratia have been relaxed by removing the post-mortem report requirement; a circle officer certificate now suffices. Families in the worst-hit districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat will receive an interim payment of 15,000 rupees for household needs. Students in Sivasagar and Charaideo will get free uniforms, textbooks and grants for higher studies.
