At least three Maoists, including a woman, were killed in an anti-maoist operation conducted in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma on Thursday [December 18, 2025], according to the police.

Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said that the three slain Maoists carried a cumulative reward of ₹12 lakh. The deceased have been identified as Madvi Joga alias Munna and Sodhi Bandi, who each carried a reward of ₹5 lakh, and Nuppo Bajni, carrying a reward of ₹2 lakh.

Earlier, the Sukma District Reserve Guard (DRG) team launched a search operation based on intelligence regarding the presence of Maoists in the forest area under the Golapalli police station in Sukma.

“During this operation, intermittent firing has been ongoing since the morning of December 18, 2025, between the Sukma DRG team and Maoists in the forest area of Golapalli Police Station. So far, the bodies of three Maoists, along with weapons, have been recovered in the encounter,” Mr. Chavan said.

He added that a 9mm service pistol, a 12-bore shotgun, a BGL cell, a tiffin bomb, and a large quantity of explosives and Naxalite materials were recovered from the site of the operation.

‘Maoism is breathing its last’

Earlier this month, 18 Maoists were killed in a gunfight with security forces along the Bijapur-Dantewada border of Chhattisgarh. Three security personnel were killed and as many sustained injuries during the operation.

Since the beginning of 2024, over 470 Maoists have been killed in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division that includes Sukma and Bijapur districts, the police said. Overall, over 500 Maoists have been killed in Chhattisgarh during the last two years.
