A former PwC employee was dismissed after working remotely from India in breach of his contract and then disputing the decision. Jasch Asher joined the firm’s Dublin office in 2022. In 2024 he left Ireland without notice and continued working from abroad. He declined an in-person performance meeting in November, claiming he was unwell and could not attend. His contract required office presence two to three days a week. When questioned about recent attendance, he said he had been present and accused his supervisor of bullying. HR later reviewed network records and found he had been connecting from India since late September. Company policy limited overseas remote work to 30 days, a limit already exceeded. During a call with HR, Asher denied being abroad and insisted he was in Dublin. He later admitted the arrangement and said he could not return because his landlord was selling the property and he did not wish to continue under the same supervisor. After dismissal, he brought a claim to the Workplace Relations Commission, alleging he had permission to work remotely. The adjudicator rejected the claim, noting Asher had not disclosed his location to the employer and had returned to India for family reasons.
