Director Chella Ayyavu’s Gatta Kusthi from 2022 achieved commercial success for Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi, later gaining further reach through streaming. Some viewers found the original film limited in its approach despite occasional humor. Expectations for the sequel, arriving four years later, were therefore measured.

Gatta Kusthi 2 improves on the first film and addresses several earlier shortcomings. Set six years after the initial story, Veera has shifted from a traditional role to managing home duties, supporting his wrestler wife Keerthy at events, caring for their daughter Mathi Malar, and leading aerobics classes locally. The narrative examines how these role changes affect family dynamics, neighborhood relations, and workplace tensions.

A rival coach attempts to exploit Veera’s situation to disrupt Keerthy’s career, creating the central conflict. Plot threads connect more effectively than before, with recurring details such as the child’s interest in dance providing payoffs. Humor also lands more consistently.

The sequel grants Keerthy greater independence as an athlete and explores the impact of parental expectations on children, including the value of self-defense skills. It also provides resolution for supporting characters left underdeveloped previously.

The final act includes a courtroom sequence and reverts to several conventional plot devices that undermine earlier progress. Some storylines conclude abruptly, leaving questions about potential continuation. Performances by the lead actors remain strong throughout.

Gatta Kusthi 2 is currently playing in theaters.
