Heavy rains and flooding from Typhoon Maysak destroyed a snake farm in southern China. Hundreds of snakes, including venomous cobras, escaped into village floodwaters. Local residents were evacuated from their homes due to the dangerous reptiles. A team was sent to recapture the escaped snakes using specialized equipment. Officials advised residents to report any snake sightings immediately. Nearly 900 snakes, including cobras, water snakes and king rat snakes, are believed to have escaped from the farm in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Most were non-venomous, but officials warned against handling any reptiles. A ten-person team used nets and electric equipment to catch the snakes. One villager was bitten and hospitalized. Over 700 residents were evacuated after reservoirs overflowed.
