Actor Shwetha Menon, who reversed her earlier plan to resign as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes, stated she will go to any length to prevent those named in the Hema Committee report from heading the actors’ organisation. In a social media statement on Tuesday, she described her campaign as targeting the power group identified in the report on challenges faced by women in Malayalam cinema. She claimed the group humiliated her and attempted to remove her from the annual general body meeting held in Kochi on June 21. Ms. Menon further alleged that members of the group made personal accusations against her after she raised questions about financial irregularities involving the association. Addressing claims that she accepted commission to recruit candidates for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2026 Kerala Assembly election, she said she did not understand the logic, noting that a national party in power for twelve years would not need her assistance. She added that she sees no need to conceal any political ties, as the executive committee already includes members aligned with various parties including Congress, CPI(M) and BJP. She also noted that corruption allegations acknowledged by actor and MLA Ramesh Pisharody have not received sufficient focus amid current disputes. The factions are now in court after the Ernakulam Munsiff court stayed the ad-hoc committee formed at the June 21 meeting following her petition. Mr. Pisharody, former convener of the committee, resigned after the order and told the court that Ms. Menon could not retain her powers after declaring her resignation and that of the executive committee at the meeting.
