A US citizen arrested in a terror case has approached a Delhi court seeking permission to cook his own food inside Tihar Jail. The man, lodged in the facility after his arrest by the National Investigation Agency, says he cannot eat the spicy and oily meals served there and has been on hunger strike for more than 50 days. In his plea he requests a kitchen setup at his own expense, including utensils, an induction cooker and ingredients such as lentils, rice, pasta, chicken, fish and vegetables. He claims the standard diet has caused him to lose about 14 kilograms and has led to vision problems and reduced immunity. The court has sought a response from jail authorities and listed the matter for further hearing. Prison rules provide four meals daily consisting of bread, tea, rotis, dal and seasonal vegetables. The request has drawn attention because it raises questions about balancing uniform prison discipline with individual dietary needs while maintaining security.
