Anthropic announced on Thursday it secured $65 billion in a funding round at a post-money valuation of $965 billion. The capital will support expanded computing resources to handle rising demand for its Claude chatbot and further product development.

This valuation exceeds OpenAI’s most recent $852 billion post-money figure from March, heightening competition between the two leaders in the fast-changing artificial intelligence field.

Anthropic’s value has more than doubled since February when it stood at $380 billion, underscoring strong investor interest in top AI developers.

The company reported that enterprise adoption has increased since its prior round, with annualized revenue reaching $47 billion this month.

Preparations for a potential public offering are underway alongside the private fundraising, according to sources close to the firm.

Both Anthropic and OpenAI intend to access public markets possibly this year to fund the extensive computing needs for their services and model training.

Recent demand has outpaced capacity, leading to usage restrictions at peak times and incentives for off-peak activity.

The round was spearheaded by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital, with Coatue and ICONIQ participating as co-leads.

Infrastructure partners Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix also contributed, incorporating $15 billion previously pledged by major cloud providers including $5 billion from Amazon.
