United States President Donald Trump has charged Iran with a major breach of the ongoing ceasefire after recent clashes in the Strait of Hormuz. He also announced that critical talks will recommence in Pakistan this week.
According to reports, Trump stated that a peace agreement could be achieved amicably or through force, emphasizing his determination to stop what he called the ‘Iran killing machine.’
The comments came after accounts of shots fired in the vital shipping route over the weekend. In a social media update, Trump alleged that Iranian troops targeted foreign ships, including those from France and Britain.
He described the actions as a clear infringement of the truce. The event occurred alongside Iran’s move to shut the Strait of Hormuz again, which Trump downplayed, pointing out that a U.S. naval presence had already stopped commerce there.
Trump noted that Iran is incurring daily losses of $500 million from the shutdown, while the U.S. faces no such costs, as shipping routes shift to American facilities in Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska.
Although he mentioned a balanced agreement is available, Trump issued a strong warning: if refused, the U.S. would target Iran’s power facilities and bridges.
He added that such steps would be swift and straightforward, something he believes previous leaders should have addressed over the past 47 years. Reports indicate Trump urged Iran to accept the deal to protect its officials.
Amid the tough language, diplomacy continues. Trump verified that his envoy, Steve Witkoff, is heading to Islamabad for new discussions.
U.S. delegates are due to reach Pakistan by Monday night, with meetings starting Tuesday and possibly lasting until Wednesday. These talks are seen as a last effort to forge a durable pact before the ceasefire ends.
