The AIADMK suffered another setback on Tuesday when former Health Minister and Viralimalai MLA Dr C Vijayabaskar resigned from the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He became the fifth party legislator to quit since the recent election results. Speaker JCD Prabhakar accepted the resignation after Vijayabaskar submitted his letter at the Secretariat. The departure reduces the AIADMK’s strength in the Assembly to 42. It follows the exits of four other legislators who later joined Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s ruling TVK. Vijayabaskar’s resignation stands apart because of his profile as a four-time MLA and prominent figure from the Edappadi K Palaniswami period, known for building support through local engagement rather than media appearances.
