Australian Federal Police are probing an online death threat against Prime Minister Narendra Modi days before his planned Melbourne visit on July 9. The threat appeared as a comment under a Facebook post promoting the Melbourne Meets Modi event at Marvel Stadium, according to local reports.
The comment, posted by an account named Abu Mustafa, warned that stadium rooftops should close or Modi would face death during his Australia trip. The post was referred to police the same day it appeared.
Investigators have traced an IP address linked to the message and are checking whether criminal offences occurred. The police have made no public statement on the case.
Threats against visiting leaders receive serious attention from Australian agencies, which coordinate with state police and specialist units for high-profile events. Modi is due to attend official meetings and community gatherings during the visit.
