Three weeks into demonstrations at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar against the nation’s education system, Cockroach Janta Party national spokesperson Saurav Das issued an open letter to citizens. The letter expressed concern over public silence regarding ongoing hardships. Das highlighted the case of activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has begun an indefinite hunger strike in support of the group’s call for Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to resign over the NEET paper leak. The letter stated that if citizens do not act, history will question what India did when Wangchuk sought support. Das noted worries about Wangchuk’s health, describing him as a Ramon Magsaysay Award recipient who chose to risk his life for students and the country rather than accept comfort. He questioned what it reveals about society when such an individual must endanger himself to gain government attention. Das added that many have grown accustomed to silence instead of outrage and indifference instead of compassion. He expressed regret that the situation has reached a point where Wangchuk must risk his life to be heard. Das mentioned that the group plans a march to Parliament on July 20 as a final effort on Wangchuk’s behalf.
