Speakers at a state-level MSME conclave on India’s defence sector held in Tirupati on Wednesday urged Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises to pursue emerging prospects in defence manufacturing. The event was organised by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce in association with the Department of Defence Production. Hindustan Shipyard Limited served as the nodal defence public sector undertaking, while the AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation provided support. The programme sought to present business options for MSMEs in the Tirupati region and help them join defence production and export activities. Officials noted substantial budget allocations for defence procurement from domestic sources and stressed the growing role of private firms. They also outlined policy measures, including acquisition procedures and industrial corridors, aimed at boosting indigenous manufacturing and reducing import reliance.
