Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday unveiled four new programs by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. He announced that NAFED would set aside 1% of profits to fund higher education scholarships and career support for children from farming households.
The initiatives comprise Nafex.in, an online agri auction platform; Drishti, an inventory management system; NAFED’s Enterprise Resource Planning solution; and NAFED Kalyan, a scholarship scheme for farmers’ children.
Shah observed that production of pulses and oilseeds has increased recently, yet full self-sufficiency is lacking because minimum support prices often fail to reach growers. He called for removal of intermediaries and urged NAFED along with NCCF to buy pulses and oilseeds straight from farmers.
