The Bharatiya Janata Party interrupted proceedings in the Jharkhand Assembly on Friday, protesting alleged irregularities in state recruitment examinations and demanding a court-supervised Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the issue.
Disruptions began as soon as the House met on the second day of the Monsoon Session. BJP members entered the well of the chamber and chanted slogans calling for Chief Minister Hemant Soren to step down.
Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato repeatedly asked the protesting legislators to return to their seats, but the opposition continued its demonstration during Question Hour. This forced the Speaker to adjourn the House until 12:30 pm.
Opposition Leader Babulal Marandi repeated the call for a CBI investigation monitored by a judicial committee, citing major flaws in the recruitment process.
The ruling Congress rejected the demand, stating that the CBI had lost its independence. Congress Legislature Party leader Pradeep Yadav said the state government shared concerns over student grievances and noted that the Criminal Investigation Department was already examining the allegations.
Yadav added that the agency now operated as an instrument of the central government. Higher and Technical Education Minister Sudivya Kumar acknowledged the opposition’s points and said the administration was committed to resolving the matter, while criticizing past recruitment issues linked to the BJP.
