The Cockroach Janata Party, which gained attention through social media, presents itself as a voice for the nation’s youth and a force for systemic change. Questions have emerged about its leadership, spokespeople and supporters, raising debate over whether it represents a genuine youth movement or advances other ideological positions.

The group planned a protest at Jantar Mantar on June 6. Observers noted that the backgrounds of those involved suggest the effort focuses more on ideological goals than on topics such as unemployment or education.

Spokesperson Saurabh Das has drawn attention for past statements. He defended slogans supporting Maoist commander Madvi Hidma during Delhi protests against pollution. After authorities acted on chants including “How many Hidmas will you kill? A Hidma will emerge from every home,” Das supported the protesters.

Security forces have fought Naxalism for two decades. Das also referred to G.N. Saibaba, convicted for links to Maoist groups, as a courageous individual. Critics argue this goes beyond human rights discussion.

Das has also spoken in support of figures connected to the Delhi riots investigations, including Umar Khalid and Gulfisha Fatima, and has criticized courts and agencies in those cases.

After the Ram Mandir consecration, Das opposed further claims on disputed religious sites and objected to holding current generations responsible for historical events. He described Arundhati Roy as one of the country’s best intellectuals after sanction was given to prosecute her under UAPA.

Another spokesperson, Vijeta Dahiya, has been linked on social media to work with YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, including a video script that portrayed Lord Ram as non-vegetarian. Supporters listed include Prakash Raj and Prashant Bhushan.
