Police have arrested a married couple in connection with the murder of a Delhi University professor found dead in her flat in the capital earlier this week, sources said. The man and woman were taken into custody from West Bengal’s Burdwan and were being brought to Delhi.

The pair allegedly killed the 42-year-old professor over a property dispute. Investigation has shown the accused lived as tenants in a house owned by the professor in Burdwan and wanted to buy it.

The professor refused to sell. According to police, the couple planned the visit to her Delhi residence under the pretext of paying rent.

They also brought their child to Delhi to avoid suspicion. At the flat they again asked her to sell the Burdwan property.

After she refused once more they allegedly killed her. They then locked the flat from outside and fled, sources said.
