A man died in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district last month after his brother-in-law set him ablaze during a family argument. The accused’s sister-in-law, who tried to intervene, also caught fire and later died from her injuries at a hospital.
The event occurred on June 13 in Sangha village, though CCTV footage only emerged recently.
Police identified the victim as Lovepreet Singh. He had visited his in-laws to persuade his wife, Sandeep Kaur, to return home after a quarrel. His brother-in-law, Sajan Singh, then doused him with a flammable liquid, likely kerosene, and set him alight.
Gurjit Kaur, the sister-in-law of the accused, attempted to save Lovepreet but suffered severe burns. Both victims died while receiving treatment.
Footage shows a man suddenly igniting another, who runs around trying to extinguish the flames. A woman who tries to stop the fire also becomes engulfed. A third man later attempts to assist her as she collapses.
Sajan Singh sustained burns himself and was hospitalized. Sadar Police Station in Tarn Taran has filed a case against him, with the investigation continuing.
